Black Pharma impact spans workforce development, industry collaboration and broader inclusion across the life sciences ecosystem.

Founded to increase representation across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology workforce, Black Pharma has grown into a trusted convenor connecting professionals, partners and community organisations to drive meaningful equity, visibility and access.

Over five years, our work has evolved from mentoring and career access to structured cross sector engagement and measurable institutional impact.

Black Pharma

     Foundation

    Black Pharma CIC was founded in August 2020 with a clear vision: to see greater representation across all levels of the pharmaceutical industry.

    Access

    13 virtual events were delivered in the first year, reaching over 1,500 registrants. Mentoring programmes were launched to widen access to internships, placements and early career roles.

    Growth

    Partnerships strengthened across industry and academia.
    Mentoring programmes expanded, and engagement deepened beyond events into structured career support and early talent development.
    Black Pharma moved from awareness-building to sustained programme delivery.

    Scale

    The Together We Can Summit marked a defining moment in Black Pharma’s evolution.
    Our large-scale in-person convening brought together 236 beneficiaries across four continents, representing more than 30 universities.
    Multi-partner mentoring programmes expanded, industry collaborations increased significantly, and our global reach accelerated

    Broadening Impact

    As Black Pharma matured, our work increasingly intersected with wider conversations around research inclusion, disease awareness and health disparities.

    In 2024 and 2025, we delivered face to face disease awareness engagements in collaboration with organizations including:

    • Sickle Cell Society

    • Diabetes Africa

    These engagements brought together professionals, community organizations and industry stakeholders to explore representation not only within the workforce, but also within health outcomes and research dialogue.

Workforce and Professional Development Impact

Black Pharma continues to focus on widening access and enabling career progression across the life sciences sector.

Key outcomes include:

  • 82 percent of coached candidates secured job offers

  • 80 percent of mentee goals achieved

  • 4000+ cumulative mentoring hours

  • Multi partner mentoring programmes supporting over 400 participants

  • 6 university career fairs

  • 3 early talent workshops supporting 150+ students

Our membership spans students, early career professionals, mid career leaders and senior executives across pharmaceutical companies, CROs, vendors and healthcare institutions.

Industry Collaboration and Ecosystem Engagement

Black Pharma has collaborated with over 50 industry partners across pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare organisations.

Through summits, roundtables, mentoring initiatives and awareness events, we create structured opportunities for dialogue between:

  • Industry leaders

  • Professionals from underrepresented backgrounds

  • Advocacy organizations

  • Community stakeholders

Since 2020, EDI initiatives have become embedded in over 55 percent of biotech and pharmaceutical organizations, with mentorship and bias training increasingly standard. Black Pharma continues to contribute to this evolving ecosystem through convening, visibility and strategic engagement.

Five Year Celebration Gala

The Black Pharma Gala and Awards 2025 marked five years of legacy and impact. The evening

brought together industry leaders, professionals, partners and advocates to honour excellence across the sector.
