About the Role

Position Summary

  • To lead the effective and efficient end-to-end manufacturing of the Pharmacy, to deliver a ‘Gold Standard’ service for patients and prescribers, with assurance, integrity, accuracy and compliance.

  • To develop and sustain a culture and practice of continuous improvement, to deliver ongoing improvements in the patient and prescriber experience.

  • To maintain compliance with all applicable laws and standards, and to maintain expert level knowledge of all applicable practices, processes and standards with which the Pharmacy must, or could comply.

  • To ensure compliance with relevant NHS contractual provisions, relevant legislation and GPhC standards of conduct, ethics and performance.

  • To build and maintain strong relationships with customers, GP surgeries, care homes and other healthcare professionals.

  • To lead the growth of the business through development of existing and new market opportunities, including through productand service innovation.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of patients and customers through the design, development and implementation of novel medication dispensing and supply services.

  • Develop and execute pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing and associated logistics processes, protocols and standards.

  • Ensure that all pharmacy practices meet guidelines described in the latest version of the Medicines, Ethics and Practiceissued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

  • Comply with all NHS contractual requirements, as well as maximising financial income available through the Pharmacy QualityScheme and other commissioned services.

  • Deliver patients’ and customers’ orders as per the defined experience journeys and standards, including those concerningtime frames and mode of delivery.

  • Guarantee continuous improvement of all processes and practices and establish lean performance measures to enablemonitoring of improvements.

  • Manage agreed pharmacy budget to ensure it remains within plan and provide inputs and forecast to deliver business growth.

  • Ensure that purchasing, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals are in accordance with excellent medicines managementpractice.

  • Promote cost reduction initiatives including the delivery of cost improvement targets while delivering improvements incustomer service.

  • Apply risk management processes, measurement and reporting to eliminate – or minimise – the risk of prescription or dosageerror through manufacturing.

  • Ensure errors, complaints and incidents are managed within company and governance guidelines.

  • Ensure pharmacy manufacturing compliance with relevant regulations, and adherence to protocols.

  • Develop audit processes to ensure that all legal, professional and service requirements are met.

  • Undertake all the roles and responsibilities of the Superintendent Pharmacist as required by all applicable legislation.

  • Support the development of pharmacists’ and pharmacy technicians’ clinical work as well as all healthcare professionalsinvolved in the management of medicines.

  • Provide professional and pharmaceutical management and leadership to the pharmacy service and staff to meet current statutory obligations.

Requirements

Registered with the GPhC with no adverse Fitness to Practice record.

  • MPharm degree.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience is highly desirable.

  • MUR and NMS accredited.

  • Expert knowledge of pharmacy regulations and laws governing the use of medicines.

  • Ability to work as a key member of a leadership team in a small business environment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to work with cross-functionalteams and to encourage and support others to achieve their objectives.

  • Results oriented with strong time management skills, highly organised and driven to succeed.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment under tight timelines.

  • Experience with a variety of PMR systems including ProScript.

  • A multi-tasker able to manage multiple queries from customers and staff alike.

  • Ability to think innovatively, and to be confident in designing and implementing novel methodologies in a ground-breaking environment

  • A broad and expert understanding of Pharmacy as an industry, with experience of collaborative working with industry working groups.

  • A strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six-sigma, TQM or other relevant quality management methodology would beadvantageous.
